About the event
Simon Kempston is a leading Scottish acoustic fingerstyle guitarist, singer-songwriter, and composer known for his intricate, highly technical instrumental style and contemporary folk-roots music. Based in Edinburgh, he tours extensively throughout the UK, Europe, and internationally, performing intimate live shows that blend complex fingerpicking guitar work with lyrical storytelling and poetic observations. His playing draws heavily on traditional Celtic and Scottish folk idioms, but incorporates elements of classical music, contemporary fingerstyle, and blues. He performs almost exclusively on custom-built acoustic instruments, utilizing intricate open tunings and percussive guitar techniques.
Simon’s latest album is his most ambitious, compelling and musically diverse album yet, and is undeniably also his most accessible. ‘A Poet or A Painter’, released in Summer 2026, showcases his sheer talent for songwriting of the highest order.
